Topic: Catastrophizing
Are you a victim of Catastrophizing? This kind of thinking
pulls your planning ‘down’ instead of up and may be hazardous
to your health.
"Catastrophizing" is what happens when you think
a worst possible outcome will happen, making assumptions about
what's going on based on very limited or circumstantial evidence.
It is assuming a more dire conclusion than we have adequate
evidence to support.
(From John C Flanagan, LCSW) What can we do to catastrophize
less? Whenever we notice ourselves being reactive, we need to
question our reactivity. We need to look at the situation through
the eyes of a third party, either in our imagination or literally
through our relationships. We need to journal, meditate, visualize,
and say affirmations- check in for 'greater truths'. We need
to keep reminding ourselves of the need for adequate information
before reaching any conclusions.
I look forward to your thoughts and comments!
