The 10-Second Biz Bite

Topic: Anger

Watch for next Month’s 10 Second Biz Bite on the topic of ‘Assumptions'

Anger is an intense emotion that can override our reason and lead us to behave inappropriately. It can bring a quickness of thought and insight that CAN be a potent ally, BUT anger more often leads to very negative consequences - for us AND our businesses.

The best thing about anger is that it passes. Before expressing feelings or opinions in anger consider the possible results. Of course, expressing anger can be better than pretending to be gentle and hiding resentment. If possible, though, wait to express your opinions until after the emotion has passed.

Another great thing about anger is that our anger is almost always quite obvious to others - has someone ever sensed angry feelings in you? We can all recall an occasion when someone was putting out angry vibes.

Anger is a terrific indicator that something is out of balance or needing attention. Don’t ignore this cue – scan your business and personal life to find what needs fine-tuning. Are you perhaps being overly sensitive? Why?

Anger also has a way of drawing your attention to your physical body. Chances are you feel your anger somewhere – in your stomach, along your back, under your skin, in your skull. Notice the feelings, breathe, and maybe take at least a few minutes to center yourself before acting. You’ll be glad you did.

Bottom line? I can't think of one incident where I have acted out my anger in a business situation that I didn't regret later. Stop, think and walk is my new Mantra, along with 'Never let them see you sweat'.....? :)

I look forward to your thoughts and comments!
