Topic: Disappointments
Watch for next Month’s 10 Second Biz Bite
on the topic of ‘Surrender’
The only thing we know for sure about being in business is
that disappointments are inevitable. There is no way you will
be completely happy with every outcome, regardless of how much
planning you do. It’s frustrating, discouraging, overwhelming,
makes you doubt yourself AND the business - and can cause much
fear and anxiety.
Our ability to handle these setbacks positively is absolutely
critical. Times of disappointment are usually fleeting, momentary.
Sleep on it - maybe tomorrow will put the problem in a new light.
What else can you do?
-
Look at the disappointment as a valuable opportunity for
growth. They can give us moments of recognition of what
we could have done differently / check-ins on reality. What
did we learn here? What is the lesson? Write it down
and diarizise it so you can teach yourself this lesson again
in future BEFORE a similar project.
-
Business life is often isolating and never more so then
when we are blindsided by disappointment. Who can you call
or meet for coffee? Networking gives us much support, particularly
around those ‘not as good days’.
-
People who work with coaches will tell you this is one
of the best benefits to having a coach. You now have someone
else on your team to cheer you on.
In closing, two of my favourite sayings come to mind. Maybe
put them on your office wall for those inevitable days of disappointment:
‘Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start all over again’
and ‘Do what you can with what you have where you are.’
I look forward to your thoughts and comments!
