Topic: Accountability
Watch for next Month’s 10 Second Biz Bite
on the topic of ‘Fairness'
There's a great story that illustrates a critical point about
accountability: that the root of accountability is accepting
responsibility.
As the story goes, two new employees of a successful Asian
airline were responsible for safely stowing an airplane. Unfortunately,
the airplane was critically damaged as it was being docked in
its hanger. The CEO/owner of the airline called the two employees
into his office and sat them down. Finally he spoke. His question
to them was, “How did I go wrong?”
This CEO understood his responsibility to ensure both proper
training for his new employees and proper care for his airplanes.
He accepted accountability for the entire operation of his airline.
Imagine the impact this CEO’s approach had on his employees.
Each of us is involved in an intricate web of inter-relationships:
with our work, family, friends, community and environment. As
Donne so poetically put it: No man is an island, entire
of itself; every man is a piece of the continent.
Accountability isn’t about finger-pointing or assigning blame,
it’s is about accepting responsibility in our roles in these
webs of inter-connection, and choosing to support those around
us.
Do you practice Relationship Marketing in your business? It
takes accountability to the next step - at it's foundation is
the quest to build long-term trust.
I look forward to your thoughts and comments!
